Effect of Mo content on microstructure and properties of iron-based cladding layer

    Abstract:

    In order to improve the microstructure uniformity and wear resistance of iron-based cladding layer,the effects of Mo on the microstructure and properties of iron-based cladding layer were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD),metallographic microscope,scanning electron microscope (SEM),microhardness tester,and wear tester.The results show that the cladding layer without Mo is mainly composed of austenite and acicular carbide (M7C3).The microstructure of the cladding layer is uneven,the overall hardness fluctuates greatly,the wear resistance is poor and there is a large scale peeling in the wear process;After adding Mo,the microstructure of the cladding layer is more uniform and refined,and the strengthening phases (M7C3 and Fe7Mo3) are mainly distributed in a network,the overall hardness is more uniform,and the wear resistance of the cladding layer is the best when the content of Mo is 10%,which is 1.76 times higher than that of the matrix.Therefore,adding Mo can improve the microstructure uniformity and wear resistance of iron-based cladding layer.The research results can provide theoretical and technical references for improving the surface wear resistance of materials.
